If you ask us – and quite a lot of people do exactly that – there’s really no better time of year to think about scrapping your old car than right now. Of course, no time represents the wrong time to upgrade, but there are a few very important points to consider when it comes to post-summer, pre-winter.

Unfortunate as it may be, it won’t be long before the weather takes a rather severe turn for the worst and the seemingly endless winter sets in. At which time, driving even the most outstanding cars on the market becomes somewhat problematic. Not to mention, building the motivation to drag yourself out of the front door in the first place!

By contrast, driving in the summertime can be an absolute pleasure. Even if the car you drive isn’t particularly pristine, it doesn’t take much to enjoy hitting the road in summer.

Still, the way we see it, there are three reasons why you might want to consider scrapping your car, before the worst of the winter weather hits. Which look a little like this:

  1. Warm and Comfortable
First of all, why spend another winter struggling to keep warm and comfortable in a car that has other ideas? It’s pretty much inevitable that every car reaching the end of its usable life will sooner or later become increasingly uncomfortable and generally unpleasant to drive. Which is, of course, something that doesn’t tend to become apparent until the weather hits rock-bottom. Freezing cold interiors, foggy windows and so on – all the kinds of things that add up to one long seasonal nightmare.
  2. Safe and Sound
Of course, the one thing that matters more than personal comfort is safety. As temperatures drop and the weather becomes more unpredictable, driving conditions have a tendency to become downright dangerous with little to no warning. When this happens, it’s always better to be at the wheel of a car you know is comprehensively safe and sound. Older cars are prone to a wide variety of problems, which at any time of year can be unfortunate enough. But when they strike when the weather is at its worst, the consequences can be catastrophic. So it’s worth asking yourself – is the car you currently drive genuinely safe to continue driving for another winter?
  3. Peace of Mind
Last but not least, owning and operating a clapped-out car during the winter isn’t what you’d call enjoyable. Trouble getting it started, problems keeping it going and finding yourself spending the rest of the time worrying if and when it is going to crap out on you completely. Suffice to say, hardly a recipe for peace of mind. So if scrapping and upgrading is something you’ve been considering for a while, why not take the plunge and equip yourself with a more reliable car for the winter ahead?
